Bioinformatics News
Are you attending any conferences this winter or Spring? I will be at the Molecular medicine Tri-conference for one day only, February 25. The conference website is at http://www.tri-conference.com/.
Drop me a line if you would like to see me there.
In March I will be leading a discussion and presenting a poster at the Next Generation Sequencing conference in San Diego. The Bioinformatics and IT requirements for NGS applications have been overlooked (as they always are!) but now people are starting to realize it. Bioinformatics software companies are jumping into the fray and claiming that they have NGS solutions, but do they have a solution for your application? And what are you going to do with your already-overloaded cluster when you drop millions of reads onto it each week? Let's not simply add more cluster nodes and heat up the earth, please- there are better solutions. Big clusters are like the SUV's of the computing world- popular but expensive and wasteful.
Do I have all the answers? Heck no! That is why I have friends and colleagues around the world to help out. Come and see me at the conference if you would like to discuss your specific application.
The 'Handbook
of Hidden Markov Models in Bioinformatics' published by CRC Press
is now available at amazon or many other booksellers. This will make
a lovely gift for all your friends. Contact me if you are interested
in basing a course on this text. I will be glad to assist.
